According to the Mine and Quarry, published in 1905 by the Sullivan Machinery Company, the Buckeye
Quarry was operated by the Ohio Quarries Company. It added, the "Stone of the 'Split Rock' variety,
highly prized in the sandstone field, has been removed at one end to a depth of 168 feet, and there is
no indication that the bottom of the deposit has been reached." During this time the quarry was
served by 12 derricks. 2005 photo by Sally Cornwell (posted 4/7/07) - picture copyright information.
